Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Norris, who took the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after his victory in Mexico City a fortnight back, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs. Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT. The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his team ran a different programme. His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he rotated at Turn Four soon after starting. Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before spinning across the run-off area, and was fortunate to get away with just a light touch of the barrier. Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho corner before the final bend on to the start-finish straight. Hamilton wrapped up in 19th, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc. The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's car in third, 0.619 seconds behind the Australian's time. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
